Obituary for Carlos Manuel Barreira

NEW BEDFORD-Carlos Manuel Barreira, 65, of New Bedford, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital following a period of declining health. He was the husband of Maria Ester (Pereira) Barreira and son of the late Manuel and Maria do Carmo (Camara) Barreira.
Born in Santa Barbara, St. Michael, Azores, he came to this country in 1976 and was a parishioner of Our Lady Of The Immaculate Conception Church.
Mr. Barreira was formerly employed as a presser at Justin Clothing.
An avid Benfica fan, he enjoyed watching soccer with his son and spending time with family, especially his granddaughter, Beatriz who was his pride and joy.
His family includes his wife, Maria Ester Barreira of New Bedford; his son, Carlos Alberto Barreira of New Bedford; his daughter, Ana Madeira and her husband, Brian of New Bedford; his brother, Joao Barreira of New Bedford; his sisters, Maria Vultao of New Bedford and Laura Barreira of St. Michael; his granddaughter, Beatriz Madeira and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Ana Barreira and six siblings.
Visiting hours in the funeral home Friday 5:00-8:00 P.M. His funeral will be conducted Saturday 8:45 A.M. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady Of The Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment in Rural Cemetery.
