Obituary for Henry Joseph Nunes, Jr.

NEW BEDFORD-Henry Joseph Nunes, Jr., 87, of New Bedford, died Monday, March 4, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Betty A. (Almond) Nunes with whom he shared nearly 70 years of marriage and son of the late Henry J. Nunes, Sr. and Elzira (Pinheiro) Nunes.
Born in New Bedford, he was a lifelong resident and was a communicant of St. Lawrence, Martyr Church.
Mr. Nunes was employed as a machine operator at Revere Copper & Brass until his retirement.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In his younger days, he was an avid weightlifter and body builder. He had fond memories of time spent at the cottage in Westport with his friend, the late Joseph Silva. Mr. Nunes was a talented photographer and was a regular patron at Riccardi's Restaurant.
His family includes his wife, Betty A. Nunes of New Bedford; his son, Steven H. Nunes and his wife, Beth of New Bedford; his daughter, Brenda L. Saunders and her husband, Steve of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Mark Saunders, Jarrad Nunes, Ross Nunes and Travis Nunes and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Alyrio Nunes, Joseph Nunes, John Nunes and Eliza Lombard.
His service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Cushing Cemetery in Mattapoisett.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to AUBERTINE-LOPES FUNERAL HOME, 129 Allen Street, New Bedford.
