Obituary for Jose Manuel Lourenco

NEW BEDFORD-Jose Manuel Lourenco, 66 of New Bedford, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital following a long period of declining health. He was the husband of Maria A. (Torres) Lourenco with whom he shared 40 years of marriage and the son of the late Manuel Lourenco da Ponte and Jacinta Medeiros Feitor. Born in Achadinha, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Acores, he came to this country in 1978 and was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Mr. Lourenco was formerly employed as a laborer for Lynch Corporation and was a member of Laborer's Union Local 385. He enjoyed gardening, watching soccer and was an avid Benfica fan. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
His family includes his wife: Maria A. (Torres) Lourenco of New Bedford; 1 son: Clifton Tavares Lourenco and his wife Christine Benevides of New Bedford; 1 daughter: Erica Duarte and her husband Joshua of New Bedford; 2 brothers: Eduardo Medeiros da Ponte of Canada and Serafim Medeiros da Ponte of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren: Logan Duarte and Maverick Duarte and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be conducted Saturday morning 7:30 at the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 8:30. Visiting hours Friday evening 5:00-8:00. Interment in Rural Cemetery.
