Obituary for Louis Dumont

NEW BEDFORD-Louis Dumont, 90, of New Bedford, died peacefully Saturday with family at his side May 11, 2019 at Sacred Heart Home. He was the husband of Juliette R. (Dessert) Dumont with whom he shared 66 years of loving marriage and son of the late Leo O. and Mary E. (Medeiros) Dumont.

Born in New Bedford, he was a parishioner of St. James Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and was also a parishioner of the former St. Anne's Church. He was always very devoted to his Catholic faith.

Mr. Dumont was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and attained the rank of Sergeant, First Class. He was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Japan Medal. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves, 483rd Engineer Battalion at Fort Rodman from 1950-1956.

Mr. Dumont was the proprietor of Paragon Printing Company in New Bedford for 22 years until his retirement. Prior to that, he was supervisor and instructor in the Vocational Printing Department at the Fort Rodman Job Corps Center from 1965-1968, supervisor of the Printing Department at Continental Screw Co. from 1950-1964 and worked in the press room at the Portuguese Daily Newspaper from 1946-1948.

His family includes his wife Julie; his children, Louise Donaghy, Mark Dumont, Ann Marie Orlowski, Jacqueline Antonietta, and the late Christine Larocque; 9 grandchildren, Faith Gurney, Edward Donaghy, Angela Parker, Matthew Dumont, Rachel Micheletti, Michael Dumont, Melissa Kwiecien, Ian Donaghy, and late Joseph Antonietta; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Richard Dumont and the late Theresa Dumont.
The family of Louis extends their sincere gratitude for the loving care provided to him by the Sacred Heart Home staff.

Visiting hours in the funeral home Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. His funeral will be conducted on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 9:30 A.M. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at St. James Church at 10:30 A.M. Interment with military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
