NEW BEDFORD-Louis P. Mello, 68 of New Bedford, died Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital following a period of declining health. Louis was born in Povoacao, St. Michael, Azores, coming to New Bedford in 1966 and residing for many years in Dartmouth. He was the son of the late Abel C. and Maria (Paiva) Melo and the husband for 46 years to Maria Clotilde (Medeiros) Mello. He was a self employed businessman. Louis was a communicant of the former St. John The Baptist Church and more recently St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth. Louis was a family man, who was dedicated to his church and loved his nieces, nephews and Godchildren. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. John The Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife: Maria Clotilde "Clo" (Medeiros) Mello of Dartmouth; 2 brothers: John Melo and Arthur Melo both of California; 4 sisters in law: Gilda Gomes, Ann daSilveira, Marie DeMelo and Darlene Bentz; 3 brothers in law: Robert Gomes, Manuel DeMelo and Edward Bentz; 2 Nephews & Godsons: Eric DeMelo and Manuel DeMelo, Jr.; Niece & Goddaughter: Hayley MacGregor; nieces: Ashley, Jennifer, Wendy, Debbie, Kelly and Abigail; nephews: Tony, Jr., Paul, Matthew, Simon, Edward, Jr. and Geoffrey; 7 cousins: Luis, Joao, Dorvelino, Fernando, Analia, Luis and Octavio Cabral; several great nieces and great nephews; he was the brother of the late: Teresa Medeiros. Private funeral service entrusted to AUBERTINE-LOPES FUNERAL HOME, 129 Allen Street. Ample lighted parking area with handicap accessible entrance to rear of funeral home.
