Obituary for Maria do Espirito Santo Tomasia

Maria departed this earth to join her maker on April 11, 2019 after rapid declining health. She was the widow of Joao Ferreira Tomasia with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.
Maria was born in Furnas, S. Miguel, Azores, daughter of Manuel Rego and Maria Leite. She immigrated to this country in 1960 with her family and worked in the textile industry for many years.
Maria is survived by her children, Juvenalia Raposo and her husband, Duarte, John Tomasia, Jr. and his wife, Maria, Maria Manuela Sousa and her husband, Hildeberto, David Tomasia and his wife, Cheryl, James Tomasia and his wife, Maria Goretti. She leaves 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who are her pride and greatest joy. She was predeceased by her brothers, Alfredo, Manuel, Jose, Americo and Jaime Rego; sisters, Alzira Amaral and Laura Tavares.
Maria was a fiercely independent individual and deeply devoted to God and her children. She cherished the good times and sharing a good laugh and reminiscing about times gone by with family and friends. She reminded her grandchildren of her reasons for immigrating and her love and appreciation for this country. She will be profoundly missed by her family.
Visiting hours will be at Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen St. Monday, April 15 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Mass at Mount Carmel Church Tuesday, April 16 at 9:00 AM followed by burial in St. John Cemetery. Kindly go directly to the church.
