Obituary for Rosa M. Santos

NEW BEDFORD-Rosa M. (Cunha) Santos, 60, of New Bedford, died Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital following a courageous 3 year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the beloved wife of John P. Santos with whom she shared 35 years of marriage and daughter of Ana Rosa (Cruz) DaCunha of So. Dartmouth and the late Joao Tavares DaCunha.
Born in Setubal, Portugal, Rosa immigrated to New Bedford in 1974 and was a parishioner of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church.
Rosa graduated from New Bedford High School in 1978 and achieved her dream of pursuing a higher level of education when she earned her bachelor's degree in Speech Communication from Bridgewater State College and her master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Assumption College. She was employed as a social worker for the Department of Children and Families.
Rosa was an avid reader, loved listening to Andrea Bocelli, enjoyed a good cup of coffee with her friends and working out at the gym. She assisted with fundraising events for the Carl Pacheco Memorial Fund which awards scholarships to Fairhaven High School athletes.
Her family includes her husband; 2 daughters, Stephanie L. Santos and Brittany A. Santos, both of New Bedford; 1 brother, John M. Cunha and his wife, Brandi of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; 1 sister, Celia Frazier and her husband, Frederick of Mattapoisett; her mother-in-law, Rosa Santos of New Bedford; her sister-in-law, Maria L. Nogueira and her husband, Carlos of New Bedford; her nephews, Benjamin Frazier and Jonathan Nogueira and his wife, Erin; nieces and godchildren, Bianca Frazier and Alison Nogueira; her best friend, Celina Mendes and her husband, Victor and her close friend and neighbor, Colleen Medeiros and her children Chelsea and Brandon Medeiros.
Visiting hours in the funeral home Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 3:00-6:00 P.M. Her funeral will be conducted on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 8:00 A.M. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Rural Cemetery.
