Obituary for Mauricio P. Gibau

NEW BEDFORD-Mauricio P. Gibau, 63, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 16, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the beloved longtime companion of Ana V. Lobo and son of Maria (Pereira) Gibau of Boston and the late Paulo Gibau.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, he immigrated to Boston in 1989 and relocated to New Bedford in 1990.
Mr. Gibau was employed as an assembler at Serta Matress.
He enjoyed playing guitar and was a talented cook, and formerly was the cook aboard a Greek fishing vessel.
His family includes his companion, Ana V. Lobo of New Bedford, his mother, Maria (Pereira) Gibau of Boston; 5 sons, Paulo Gibau of Cape Verde, Joao Gibau and his wife, Maria Pires of New Bedford, Helder Gibau of Boston, John Lobo of New Bedford and Junior Lopes of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Diana Fortes of New Bedford and Maria Tavares of New Bedford; 5 brothers, Joao Brito of Pawtucket, RI, Jose Gibau of Sacramento, CA. Joao Gibau of Pawtucket, RI, Paulo Gibau of Central Falls, RI and Adalberto Gibau of Pawtucket, RI; 3 sisters, Candida Cardoso, Julia Gibau and Magda Sequeira, all of Boston; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Olavo Gibau, Eugenio Gibau and Margarida Gibau Almeida.
Visiting hours in the funeral home Monday evening 5:00-8:00. His funeral will be conducted Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady Of The Assumption Church at 10:00. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery.
